5G NAS协议分为移动管理（5GMM）和会话管理（5GSM）。5GMM包括UE的鉴权、安全模式控制、移动处理等，5GSM用于UE和SMF间的PDU session的处理，UE与SMF的交互需通过AMF。

5GMM过程有三种：

通常在UE处于5GMM-CONNECTED态时发起。
1)由网络发起：

UE-initiated NAS transport
3)由UE或网络发起，用于报告在接收到5GMM协议数据时检测到的某些错误情况：

2)由UE或网络发起，用于从网络注销并且释放5GMM上下文：

5GMM connection management procedures
1)由UE发起，用于与网络建立安全连接或者请求待传数据的资源预留，或者两者皆是：
service request
2)由网络发起，用于请求N1 NAS信令的连接或者用于PDU session的用户面资源的重建：
paging
3)由网络发起，当UE在3GPP上的5GMM-CONNECTED态或非3GPP上的5GMM-IDLE态时，用于请求在3GPP连接上的与非3GPP接入相关的PDU session的用户面资源的重建：
