Internet platform is developing fast, andnew concepts are coming out all the time. The internet backbone is the tie forconnecting Things-to-Thing (T2T), Human-toThing (H2T) and Human-to-Human (H2H)connection network. Hence, the more general term of the Internet of Things hasbeen presented. In this thesis, the general concept of the Internet of Thingshas been presented. Moreover, some important protocols inherited from theInternet are given. Furthermore, some major communication technologies that arestrong candidate to be used in the Internet of Things have been discussed. Inaddition, cognitive IoT system has been revealed to organize the whole conceptof the Internet of Things and the final goal to achieve in Internet of Things.As case study, there will be a sample application for the Internet of Things. Inthis application, it presents us how this IoT technology would interact withour life. The sensor simulator will generate all the data for the temperatureand humidity. Later on, the data would be transmitting to the IBM Watson IoTplatform through the wireless communication. The platform will allow us tocreate a standard to judge the data. When the data reach the limits, then theplatform will send a tweet to warn the user. In the end, this thesis would giveyou a general understanding of the Internet of Things. The interaction betweenhuman and machine will be revealed. Moreover, the cognitive IoT should alsogive reader a general understanding with the development of IoT.
