Under the guidance of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, this research was carried out for users of Tantan platform who were born after 1995. Questionnaire surveys and in-depth interviews were conducted on their concepts of love, friendship, and marriage.

The results show that as a young generation growing up in a new technological environment, "Gen Z" is deeply influenced by social software when looking for love and marriage. Among them, social software surpassed "acquaintance introductions" and entered the top 3 love channels most anticipated by "Gen Z". Nearly 70% of the respondents believed that social software was more effective than traditional love channels. In addition, the attitude of "Gen Z" towards love, marriage and childbirth issues, as a whole, shows more independent, more equal, and more rational characteristics.

Social software becomes the top 3 love channel of "Gen Z"

"Generation Z" is considered to be a group of people who were born and grew up between 1995 and 2009. As growth is accompanied by the rapid development of technologies such as smartphones and the Internet, the interpersonal relationships, self-identification, and values of the "Gen Z" are deeply influenced by technology.

The survey results show that social software plays an important role in the search for love and marriage of "Gen Z". Forty percent of the interviewees said that they had been in love with friends they met on Tantan, and 67.1% of the respondents believed that social software was more effective than traditional dating channels. When asked which channels were most anticipated to "off-order", social software surpassed "acquaintances" and entered the top 3 love channels most anticipated by "Gen Z".

In addition, online social software also has a certain impact on the "Generation Z" dating standards and mate selection standards. In this survey, 35.3% of the respondents believe that using Tantan makes them "more aware of the opposite sex and more aware of what kind of partner they want", and more than 50% of the respondents believe that using Tantan has improved their abilities in certain dimensions. The criteria for choosing a spouse, such as mental fit and appearance.

Men are more willing to love and get married than women

Men and women, who is more eager to fall in love, who is looking forward to marriage? The gender-disaggregated data in this survey shows that male respondents’ willingness to fall in love and marriage are significantly higher than female respondents.

When asked "when do they want to start dating", 70.7% of male respondents said that the sooner the order is better, only 44.9% of female respondents chose the sooner the better. In addition, when asked about their motivation to fall in love, 30.7% of the male respondents chose "to find the other half of the marriage", while only 18.8% of the female respondents chose "to find the other half of the marriage". From the survey results, "Generation Z" women consider marriage less often than men when they are in love. The reasons for this are the increase in women's independence and economic status, which may be important factors.

In this survey, many interesting data that conflict with traditional gender roles have also emerged. For example, men have always been regarded as "visual animals", but this survey shows that the top three factors that "Gen Z" boys are most concerned about when looking for a partner are: whether they are compatible, whether they have consistent consumption ideas, whether they have time to spend time with themselves, "Value" is not in the top three; the top three factors that girls are most concerned about when looking for a partner are: whether they can get along well, whether their work is stable, and their appearance is justice. "Generation Z" girls are obviously more "colorful" than boys.

Seventy percent of women expect to share parenting work equally

Many "Generation Z" have not yet faced difficulties in marriage and parenting, but the attitude of "Generation Z" is undoubtedly an important indicator of future social and cultural trends. As a generation that grew up in a culture of equality, the "Generation Z" attitude towards marriage and parenting shows more independent, more rational and more equal characteristics.

In traditional gender culture, “upward migration” (a cultural phenomenon in which women are accustomed to choosing men one level higher than themselves as their marriage partner) has always been deeply ingrained, but “Gen Z” men and women clearly have a trend of breakthroughs. In this survey, nearly 40% of male respondents are able to accept the love and marriage patterns of women whose income is higher than that of men, which means that in the future, both women and men will have a wider and more diverse range of mate selection.

At the same time, "Gen Z" women are more independent economically and ideologically. Nearly 80% of the respondents accept pre-marital property notarization, 40.1% of female respondents strongly agree that women buy a house before marriage, and a small number of people begin to explore AA marriage. Whether it is economically or in terms of getting along with each other, the "Generation Z" youths are thinking about and exploring more equal relationships in love and marriage.

However, there are significant differences in the tendency of the "Generation Z" male and female respondents to the division of labor. 74.4% of female respondents want to share parenting work equally with their partners, but only 55.8% of male respondents want to share equally; 34.6% of male respondents want their wives to mainly take care of children, and only 19.7% of female respondents believe that parenting should be done Wife is the master. This shows that the willingness of "Gen Z" men to raise children still needs to be improved.
