Alibaba Cloud ECS, purchase reference and usage recommendations for burst performance instance t5

It is believed that with the end of the Alibaba Cloud group sharing activity, many buyers who participated in the group sharing and the recipients who initiated the group sharing have already obtained the server or the delivery coupon.

Please note if you get the delivery voucher: it will be opened within one month, and it will be invalid after expiration! ! !

Note for those that have been activated: The ECS instances provided by the event are of the burst performance t5 series, and the CPU benchmark performance is 10%.

How to understand this sudden performance?

To put it simply, it usually does not use much CPU resources, and occasionally or the peak value exceeds 10%!

When purchasing a burst performance instance t5, there is one keyword you should pay attention to: cpu benchmark value. This value determines whether you are suitable for using this machine. The first reaction of many people when they get the machine is to scold Alibaba Cloud for overselling it.

Let me put it this way, according to my current experience and understanding: this product was launched by Alibaba Cloud after seeing that a large number of users bought ecs with low CPU utilization. If you only use 10% of the CPU resources, then the remaining 90 % Completely idle waste. In this context, Alibaba Cloud can not only wear the hat of overselling, but also allow low-utilization users to enjoy lower costs. For Alibaba Cloud, Alibaba Cloud made such a product to improve the CPU utilization rate, which is for users whose average CPU utilization rate is lower than 10%. These users can use the t5 model in exchange for lower costs. Therefore, it is difficult to use the term oversale to describe the Alibaba Cloud t5. If you buy a t5 machine and your requirements exceed the benchmark performance, then obviously you are not suitable to buy a t5 model. What if I already bought it? You can try adding a cpu to disperse the pressure. In addition, the newly opened machine will be given 30 cpu credits by default.

        CPU benchmarks?

No other product mentions this term, except for the t5 model, because the t5 model is to judge whether it is suitable for purchase according to the cpu benchmark.

This event is giving away 10% of the CPU benchmark. What does that mean? Only when the CPU utilization rate is lower than 10% can the CPU points be accumulated. When the CPU utilization rate is higher than 10%, the accumulated points will be consumed. After the points are used up, the CPU will be forced to be reduced to 10%. In fact, it has been limited to 10% to run. At present, in the official website t5 purchase link, there are two benchmarks: 10% and 15%.

Taking me as an example, I got the rewarded t5 model, and then because I am a Windows user, the new system optimization is not in place, which leads to the frequent use of cpu points. The system runs slowly at full load. Here, I would like to say to users who also use Windows systems. For newly installed systems, especially newer systems such as Windows Server 2016, please be sure to optimize the system after installing the system. Turn off automatic system maintenance, Windows Update, Windows Defener , Windows Modules Installer and other services (see my other blog post for details: https://www.opengps.cn/Blog/View.aspx?id=70   ), otherwise the process of preparing the environment will run out of cpu credits problem, and deeply realize the turtle-speed running after t5 runs out of points.
