How to use U disk/USB device in VirtualBox 5.1 in Ubuntu 16.04

environment:

Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

VirtualBox 5.1.26 r118224

Virtual machine system: Windows 7 SP1 64

Install the extension:

Download here: (Note that the version is good, the version does not match and the installation is unsuccessful)

http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/4.3.36/

Install:

【Management】->【Global Settings】->【Extension】

During installation you will be prompted to enter an administrator password.

Add user permissions:

1. Add usbfs user group (there will be two user groups vboxusers and vboxsf after installation)

sudo groupadd usbfs

2. Add your common Linux users to the two groups of vboxusers and usbfs

sudo adduser Jim vboxusers
sudo adduser Jim usbfs

Set up the virtual machine hardware:

Note: The settings are based on personal hardware conditions, and I use ICH9+USB3.0 here. If you can't recognize it normally with reference to this setting, you can switch to try in turn.

When you start the virtual machine at this time, you will be prompted to install the hardware. If you choose USB2.0, you should not need to install additional drivers. If it is 3.0, you need to download the driver. It is said that a higher version of virtualbox can be installed successfully.

Install the driver and restart the virtual machine. Then shut down.

The physical machine Ubuntu is also restarted.

Open VirtualBox again, start the virtual machine, and insert the U disk. You will find that the USB settings in the lower right corner have been recognized normally, check the device of the U disk. Or select [Device] in the menu bar

After selection, it can be recognized normally.
