LinkedIn Workforce Report
We know that more than 143 million employees in the U.S. have LinkedIn profiles, that more than 20,000 companies use LinkedIn to recruit, that more than 3 million jobs are posted on LinkedIn every month, and that members can add more than 50,000 to their profiles skills to demonstrate yourself. This gives LinkedIn a unique insight into U.S. workforce trends.
LinkedIn's November 2017 U.S. Workforce report noted that hiring in the hardware industry has grown by nearly 10 percent since October 2016, and hiring in the software industry has grown by nearly 15 percent.
Specifically, with the development and wider application of more complex technologies (such as artificial intelligence), we are seeing more specialized machine learning and data-related roles as the top choice for emerging careers. These jobs also have broad applications outside the tech industry.
The number of customer experience personas shows that "the age of the customer" is more than just a term. These jobs are among the non-automated jobs on the market today, and the skills associated with them are not necessarily taught in universities because they rely heavily on soft skills.

Comprehensive skills across multiple disciplines also appear to be in higher demand. Some of these emerging jobs span multiple fields and apply to multiple industries.
Certain professional positions are going downhill. From professional developers, to legal experts, and even dedicated logistics roles, we are seeing these roles replaced by more comprehensive skill sets and roles.
