Create pivot table

  • Configure dimensions/metrics/filters

We expect to analyze the basic situation of sales, build a pivot table, and view four indicators of sales, total cost, profit, and profit margin based on the dimensions of time (year/quarter/month/day), product color, and product module . We want to understand the sales situation of a specific customer group, so we set the following filter conditions:

We drag and drop a series of metrics and dimensions to the row/column/value/filter list:

  • Filter - label filter on row/column dimension values

When setting filter conditions for the product module, we use label filtering, that is, only view all products whose product module name starts with Mountain. The operation is as follows:

It can be seen that when the number of dimension values ​​to be analyzed is very large and the names have certain rules, using label filtering can quickly select all dimension values ​​that meet the conditions, instead of selecting dimension values ​​one by one in the filter list. Example: Select all product titles that contain "mobile phone" in the name.

If you only want to conduct targeted analysis on the high-end professional group, you can modify the previous filter conditions in the filter at this time, and only keep managers:

If you only want to focus on a certain year, such as 2011, you can use the drill-down/roll-up function, and the operation is as follows.

Uncheck the option to delay layout update, select cell 2011, and drill down to the next level in 2011 to obtain the index values ​​of all quarters, months, and dates in 2011:

We can select the cells in the first quarter and continue to drill down; then select the cells in February until we drill down to the last layer, which is the index values ​​on February 27, 2011:

Note: Scrolling up is the reverse operation of drilling down. If the current level is drilled down from the previous level, you can choose to drill up to return to the previous level. The operation steps will not be described in detail.

When you want to focus on a certain dimension value link (such as: a certain year/a certain season/a certain month or a certain product category/a certain first-level category/a certain second-level category) for analysis, drill-down and roll-up are different. Two choices.

Next, we will focus on customer attributes to analyze the sales situation, put customer education and customer occupation on the row, put customer gender on the column, and enable the display of subtotals:

Based on the indicator of profit, the customer education background is sorted in descending order, so as to know which education customer groups have the highest sales profit. Here, the dimension is sorted based on the index value (referred to as value sorting), and the operation is as follows:

As shown in the figure below, the cells marked in green clearly represent the profits of people with different education backgrounds, and it can be directly seen that the profits of people with a bachelor’s degree are the highest.

  • Filter - value filtering on row/column dimension values

Now analyze the profit margins of different occupations among people with different educational backgrounds. Assuming that the profit rate is higher than 40%, it meets the expectation. At this time, you can use the dimension to filter based on the index value (abbreviated as value filtering). The operation is as follows:

As shown in the figure below, the cells marked in blue in the figure clearly represent the groups of people with different educational backgrounds and different occupations, and their profits are all higher than 40%. It is worth noting that in the previous step, the effect of value sorting is still in effect, that is, the report in the figure below can clearly see which education groups have the highest sales profit, and at the same time, which occupational groups have reached the standard sales profit rate for each education group .

It is not difficult to understand that value screening and value sorting are very important means when you want to make statistics on KPIs or rank performance.

  • pivot table layout

Pivot tables are displayed in compressed mode by default (that is, when there are multiple dimensions on a row, these dimensions are compressed on one column and displayed in a hierarchical relationship). For users who are used to reading pivot tables in tabular form, we also support tabular mode To display the report, that is, display the dimensions superimposed on the row in parallel on the columns, and name each column header the name of the dimension on the row.
