Repair method of Sony mxf playing flowers and frames without sound

Sony's film and television cameras generally use MXF file structure. In some extreme cases (such as power failure), RSV files will be generated. At this time, RSV files have no file structure (no file header, metafile, file trailer, etc.) and are only data EC Content, today we will talk about a special case, the encapsulation only made the file header and the result is wrong.

Fault file: 16.8G MXF file

Symptoms:

The customer described that after the shooting, he saw that there was no problem and took a picture directly, but when editing the file, he was prompted that the file was abnormal and could not be opened, and the player had broken frames, no sound, skipped frames and no progress bar. As shown in the figure below, you can see the broken frame parsing, the player thinks that there is no audio encoding (of course there is no metafile), and only the video encoding is H264 (the player without metafile is forced to decode 264 naked stream), no duration (No file player can't predict the duration). Why can the player play it forcibly, but the editing software cannot edit it? The reason is that the editing software has higher requirements for the video, and a preliminary verification of the video is required. If the meta file does not exist or the structure is abnormal, an error will be reported directly!

Failure analysis:

As shown in the figure above: analyzing the fault file, it is found that the file header and some structural meta files have been generated, but the index has not yet been generated!

After dealing with Sony cameras for a long time, the processing flow of the Sony camera management program is probably reversed:

  1. Audio and video capture (memory)
  2. Temporary file RSV generation (memory card)
  3. Generate metafile (storage card or internal memory)
  4. Combine metafile and RSV file to generate MXF file (file header-metafile-index-file footer)
  5. Delete RSV file

It can be seen that RSV is the original audio and video file. This type only collects the most original picture and sound according to the corresponding file structure such as (mxf or mp4). At this time, the file cannot be played because there is no meta file. At this time, the player cannot perform decoding operations.

The reason why this file can be played is because the player uses the forced decoding function, so the duration is abnormal and the audio code cannot be obtained. Now it can be judged that there is a problem in step 4. Unlike the RSV file, the current file name is MXF, which means that it is very likely that the file packaging has already started, but it has not been fully completed for some reason. What we have to do at this point is to generate the metafile in step 3, that is, to repair the MXF file.

One more thing, there is another situation where the RSV file is 0 bytes. The solution in this case is to use the video scanning module of the CHS Zero One video recovery program to scan it first. For the specific method, refer to the case we published before.

Troubleshooting:

STEP1: Run the advanced version of CHS Zero One Video Recovery Program (or CHS Zero One Video Recovery Program MXF version), click "Video Repair" to switch to the repair interface. Currently, the repair function supports repairing damaged video files such as mp4, mov, 3gp, and mxf.

Click "Sample File" to add the sample file, which is required to be the normal file generated by the camera;

Click "Damaged File" to open the damaged 16.8G file. If there are multiple files that need to be repaired, click "Batch Damaged Files" to add multiple damaged files.

STEP2: Click "Repair" to repair and wait for completion. It can be seen that the program has successfully parsed out the camera brand, duration, speed and other parameters.

STEP3: The repair is complete, check the repair result. It can be seen that the repair level is four stars after repair, which means the repair effect is perfect; the duration is 47 minutes and 06 seconds, which is roughly the same as the shooting time provided by the customer; the preview on the right can be played for trial use.

After saving and checking the repaired video file, the audio and video are completely normal, and the repair work is completed.
