At present, the evaluation of ecosystem services mainly focuses on economic value, and there are many related evaluation methods, such as value equivalent method, InVEST model method, market price method, etc. As the social value of ecosystem services increases, more and more scholars pay more attention. , quantitative research on the social value of ecosystem services has also been gradually carried out. The social value of ecosystem services is defined as the non-material benefits that people obtain from ecosystems , so social value is often related to human perception. Due to the strong subjective attributes of human perception, the quantitative evaluation of the social value of ecosystem services is a difficult problem.

SolVES (Social Values ​​for Ecosystem Services) is a model developed by the US Geological Survey and Colorado State University to assess the social value of ecosystem services . This model can be used to evaluate and quantify the social value of various ecosystem services such as aesthetics, biodiversity, and recreation. The evaluation results are expressed in a value index of 1-10 (no monetary value is estimated), and the greater the value index Indicates higher social value.

The SolVES model is a tool embedded in ArcGIS software. It consists of three sub-models: social value model, value mapping model, and value conversion mapping model (see Figure 1). The social value model and value mapping model need to be used in combination and require environmental Data layers, survey data, and research area boundaries, etc., the value conversion mapping model can be used alone, and is suitable for research areas without original survey data (generally based on the SolVES analysis results of areas with existing survey data, and then by establishing a statistical model for assessment of new study areas).

During the operation of the SolVES model, firstly, the social value model is used to select the interviewee group (stakeholder group), and the kernel density analysis tool in ArcGIS software is used to obtain the maximum value and the position of the determined highest rated value; secondly, the value mapping model is used Select the social value, normalize the social value according to the maximum value to obtain the value index, and calculate the environmental change; finally output the calculation result of the MaxEnt statistical model in ArcGIS, and obtain the relationship between the social value index map and the environmental variables .

 Installation environment preparation 

Computer system: win7/win10 (win8 has not been tried)

GIS: ArcGIS 10.1- ArcGIS 10.5 can be used (key point )

Versions after ArcGIS 10.5 are not compatible with SolVES3.0

The installation environment of this tutorial is win10 and ArcGIS10.5

 Detect if .NET Framework is installed

 Install solvse3.0

Create a SolVSE installation path on the non-C drive of the computer, such as D:\\SolVES (the name of the installation path cannot be changed), copy the files in the SolVES folder in the installation package and SolVES_v3.1.esriAddIn to this path, and the result is as shown in the figure below;

Then, when ArcGIS is closed, double-click to open the "SolVES_v3.1.esriAddIn" just copied, and click Install Add-In;

The following prompt appears, click OK;

Then open Arcmap, click Customize in the menu bar - extension module, tick Spatial Analyst, and click Close;

Then click Geoprocessing in the menu bar - Geoprocessing Options, tick the two options under General, and click OK;

If you have not seen the floating window of the SolVES tool in the Arcmap interface at this time, click the menu bar to customize - toolbar, select SolVES to see it, and then move the floating window of the SolVES tool to a suitable position;

5Change  computer settings

Open the control panel of the computer, select the region, and change the format to English (United States) under the format option, as shown in the figure below, and then click other settings;

Then confirm that the relevant settings under the number option are consistent with the figure below, and click OK;

 install maxent 

Double-click the maxent.bat in the maxent installation package to run the installation package, and the following interface appears, which means that the maxent installation is successful;

Then copy the three files in the maxent installation package to the maxent folder in the software installation directory;
