The end of the line for a network engineer is...

Hello everyone, I am Mr. Xu.

I've been very busy at work recently, and I haven't output articles for you for a long time, so I took the time to chat with you.

Two days ago, an intern asked me this question:

"What's the end of a network engineer?"

At that time, my mind went blank, and then a lot of answers came to my mind.

This question is a good one. Whether it is a newcomer or a veteran network worker with ten years of experience, this is a question we should think about.

If you have no idea, you might as well listen to my answer.

Today's article reading benefits: "National Network Worker Exchange Group Entrance Quota (Limited Time Open)"

Internet workers from all over the country gather here, chat about everything in the group, the latest industry intelligence, information on Internet workers, technical exchanges ... everything you want to know is here.

The quota for entering the group is open for a limited time, private message me, and send the secret code "Join the group", only the first 30 friends who private message.

01 The end of the network engineer is...

Later, I asked many people this question.

In fact, the essence of this question is what is the end of the work.

I asked my colleagues, friends, and even went to the Internet to search for the answer to this question.

There are too many people asking this question, all kinds of people, and there are too many answers, because it is too subjective.

For network engineers, maybe your answer is this.

01 The end of the network engineer, or a network engineer?

This answer was given to me by a colleague.

After I asked, he said: "Is this nonsense literature? Isn't the end of a network engineer still a network engineer?"

That said, there's really nothing wrong with it.

In the career development of network workers, most people's path is to upgrade from basic network workers to senior network workers, switch to management or do pre-sales, in short, they are all mixed in this line.

As an internet worker, what you do is naturally inseparable from the work content related to internet workers.

The old picture above basically covers all the work done by Internet workers, and most of us still develop within this scope.

This simple answer is even a bit Zen.

When you look at a mountain, it is still a mountain at first glance. When you start to explore, climb, touch, and fantasize, that mountain seems to have turned into a cloud, but when you look back, the mountain is still a mountain.

How did you develop in the network engineering industry, and what position did you upgrade from a junior network engineer to? Search up and down within this scope, but when you come back to your senses, we are still network engineers and are still in this industry.

02 At the end of the network engineer, is there an endless technology?

This answer is a pain point for many people.

Especially some young network workers who have just entered the industry feel that if they want to do a good job in the network industry, they have to learn endless skills.

Many people stay away.

To be honest, the times are indeed developing very fast, and technology is also updating very quickly.

Back in the day, when you learned HCIE or CCIE, if you just read a book, companies would think you were a master of technology with extremely high gold content.

Nowadays, why are several IEs being promoted everywhere, learning cloud computing after learning the network, learning security after learning cloud computing, and learning Linux after learning security...?

It is because the technology is developing too fast, and there are too many directions for network workers to expand .

However, I personally don't quite agree with the point of view of learning one after another.

It is recommended that you think about your goals and learn new technologies in stages.

For example, if your goal is a senior technical engineer of cloud computing, then study cloud computing technology in stages, and go to learn what penetration means? no need.

Technology should indeed be learned. If you don't learn it, you will fall behind and may be eliminated.

When you are a doctor, don't doctors have to keep up with the times and learn new surgical techniques?

When you are a teacher, doesn't the teacher have to constantly adjust the teaching plan according to the changes in the teaching materials?

If you are a programmer, you will be eliminated sooner or later if you keep playing with the code?

But technology can never be learned, and it is the same in any industry.

It mainly depends on where you want to develop, what technology to learn, how deep you have learned, what level you have learned, and what position you are in. For you, it is the end.

Think about it and work towards this goal.

If you still have no idea, please private message me and send the password "consultation" to chat about your situation and see if I can help you.

03 The end of the network engineer, will you change career sooner or later?

This answer, some people think it is a joke, but the answer is full of the sadness of how many Internet workers... everyone understands it.

Who doesn't want to develop to the top of the industry? But there are few people who can do it.

Most of the network engineers are grassroots personnel, and most of the people who are shouting to change careers are also these people.

Here, how much is desktop operation and maintenance, how much is weak current work, and how much is single and boring work with no content...

When you don't have enough education, skills, or experience, as you grow older, the road left for you becomes narrower and narrower.

It seems that the road in front of you is to change careers sooner or later, but in fact you don't know which career to switch to. The actual situation is that career change = unemployment.

Everyone will complain about work, say they don't want to do it, or change careers, but how many people can accumulate the courage to start all over again, see jobs that are more promising than Internet workers, and execute them successfully?

To be honest, if you can develop a head start in a new industry, you will definitely not be bad in the network industry.

Of course, if you really don't like it, have no interest in this industry, or even hate it, then I advise you to change careers as soon as possible.

And those friends who are bad, if you say ten thousand words that you want to change careers, you may not have started planning this matter yet.

02 What is the end of a network engineer depends on how you think

Regarding this question, after reading the above answers, have you thought about what is the end of a network engineer?

In fact, the answer to this question does not matter what anyone says. The end of your network worker career depends on what you think and how you do it.

01 The first essence of work is basically to make money

Excluding network workers friends who experience life, then why do ordinary people work?

It's not just for money, for food and clothing, and for housing.

This thing is not vulgar at all. When you face life, family, hobbies, everything you want to work hard, basically cannot do without this vulgar thing.

So I said, the end of our online workers is to make more money, no one objected, right?

Now that everyone is basically the same, the methods are actually quite different.

Get promoted and raise salary, develop side business, start your own business.

Just the above three ways.

Internet workers friends in private companies, don’t be afraid to learn technology, make a plan, rush towards the route and you’re done.

Not to mention going to those original factories, after you have rich skills and experience, it is not a problem to mix into the middle level, and the sociable network workers who are good at pre-sales and sales are really not low.

Some "iron rice bowls" with stable jobs, or Internet worker friends who want to make more money, doing side jobs is considered basic practice , and I sometimes take private jobs myself.

If you want to know how to start a side job, read my previous article: " How wild can a network engineer's side job be?" ".

Then there is the last item. You have accumulated certain contacts, resources, customers, or you are very entrepreneurial, so you can try it.

Everyone always says that you can’t make money working for others, you have to start your own business, but be careful, this is the biggest risk for most Internet workers.

It is only recommended for network workers friends who have ideas, allies, and economic foundation to try.

02 Realize value, this may not be empty talk

Work is often more than just making money.

When the job is stable and the salary is decent, we will more or less search for the value of the job and what the job of an online worker means to you.

For example, when you do a good job, whether the recognition from the leader or the praise from the customer brings you a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction.

If the first point of making money is the bottom-level need of your work, then the second point I mentioned belongs to the upward and higher-level needs.

Suppose, for more than ten years, your career as an Internet worker will never change. There is no salary increase, no promotion, and no one takes you seriously. No one thinks that you are important in your work. .

Although the whole network is preaching that a job is just a job, a job can be more than just a job.

When you complete a complicated cutover task, get rid of a tricky customer, and quickly troubleshoot, will it make you happy?

I have been in the middle level, and I have also led many subordinates, some are obedient, clever, and even more disobedient.

When you teach them your work experience, watching them grow, watching them recognize you, that feeling is irreplaceable.

Leaders value you, subordinates respect you, and the company needs you, all of which can provide you with emotional value at work.

And at this moment, I am outputting articles for you and expressing my thoughts.

It will be helpful to you to share my network experience with you. This kind of value cannot be obtained in my own work. I also cherish such an opportunity.

Let's look at this question again.

What is the end of the net worker...

Everyone's answer is different.

The end of the net worker is the state you most want to achieve in your heart, and it is the new goal you set for yourself in each stage of work.

Maybe a monthly income of 30k;

Maybe buy a house next to the company;

Perhaps proficient in the latest network engineering technology;

Maybe a promotion to account manager;

Perhaps it is to become a big boss respected by everyone...

Of course, all of these are not empty words. You should study, work hard, compete, and seize opportunities. You must do all of them.
