Build a personal NAS through a virtual machine

1 Set up Heiqunhui NAS

Preliminary information:

• Black Synology System

• VMware or other virtual machine tools [provided in the documentation]

1.1 Install NAS in a virtual machine

1. Install VMware-workstation (hereinafter referred to as VM), which is the virtual machine software.

2. Open the virtual machine, then open the "Virtual Machine Configuration File" and click on the file with the suffix .vmx
   

3. After clicking, it is equivalent to us importing a virtual machine

4. Modify configuration [NAS requires another disk to store files]

Click to edit virtual machine settings - select the hard disk - click Add below - select SATA as the disk type - create a new virtual disk - the disk size is recommended to be 20G or more

Select NAT for the network adapter

5. Click Next, click Finish, return to the page, select Turn on this virtual machine, select I have moved this virtual machine
   

6. When the page below appears, it means that Black Qunhui has been successfully installed.
   

1. 2 Install Synology Assistant (connect to NAS in virtual machine)

7. Install the management assistant locally (win10 or other systems)

8. Run after installation

9. Select the discovered server and right-click to install

10. Select the file ending with .pat in the given information

11. Click Next and enter the password of the Black Qunhui NAS you just installed in the virtual machine (below Login will be used) - Click Next - Configure IP, gateway, etc., click Finish and wait for installation

12. After the installation is completed, you find that the server status changes to Ready, right-click and select Online
    
13. Enter the management page, the account is Admin, and the password is the previously set one.
    

1.3 Set disk, folder

Enter the management page through Synology Assistant and set up disks and shared folders

14. Enter this page, even if the installation of Qunhui is complete
    

Next, we can configure the disk

15. Configure RAID Group
    

• Select Basic for the storage space type, and click Next
  

• Select the second disk we added before (20G size), select it with the mouse, hold down and drag it to the right, click Next

• It prompts that we will erase the data on the disk - click OK - click Next

• Hard disk check here, we select 否, click Next, click Apply
  

16. Configure storage space.
    
    Click OK, and we have configured the disk.

17. Next, we set up a shared folder so that our host can directly access the nas in the virtual machine.
    Double-click File Station on the desktop - select the shared folder - click New

Change the name and description of the folder to whatever you want, and you will be able to 我的电脑see the shared folder locally later.

You can set other configurations according to your own needs. I will not set them here. Just click Next and then Apply.

18. Configure user permissions (configure according to your own needs)
    

19. Return to the Synology Assistant page before local win10

• Right click - select network hard drive
  
• Enter username and password
  
• Then keep clicking 下一步, and finally click Done
• Finally, go back to the local win10 (the OS of your own computer) and open my computer

If the result shown below appears, or if you do not see Qunhui’s shared folder in my computer, you need to

win+R，输入control打开本地win10控制面板，
找到里面的SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support勾上，重启电脑【win10企业版/专业才有功能】
如果是家庭版，可以上网搜索或购买密钥，进行升级并激活

After restarting the computer, I found that I successfully accessed

expand:

①Map nas as a local disk

Achieved by mapping network locations

Click on this computer - click on map network drive and select the corresponding remote file.

This step is the same as the function we implemented through Synology Assistant before [so we can double-click directly instead of entering ip + shared folder name in the search bar to access]

②Access through other machines

Just switch the network mode on the virtual machine from NAT to bridge mode

If we want to back up the data on our mobile phone, we can use DS photo (Synology’s mobile phone software, which can back up our mobile phone photos)

2 Set up Bai Qunhui NAS [same as above]

The method is similar to the above

Qunhui system:

• Black Qunhui
• Bai Qunhui: More functions, more stable, and can be directly connected to the network

Black Group Hui can be washed in a special way, which can be fully washed or half washed.
