【Summary】My principles

During this period, I finally read Dalio's "Principles" and I was very moved. I originally wrote a thousand-word review of the book. I also followed the author's suggestions and found some principles of my own. However, I don't know why I found that the review was not saved. …So let’s just state my own principles. I excerpted the “hero” mentioned by the author in the book before. Maybe it’s because I am obsessed with games and movies, and I am very sensitive to this kind of thing. After all, I have always been On the "road of trials", I also particularly hope that one day in the future I can be "reborn".

They usually start out living an ordinary life in an ordinary world, and then are inspired by a "call to adventure." This leads them on a "path of trials" filled with battles, temptations, victories and defeats. They are helped along the way by others, usually those who have gone further along and become mentors, although some who have not gone far enough can also help in different ways. They also encounter allies and enemies and learn how to fight, often in unconventional ways. They will encounter various temptations along the way, and have conflicts with their elders and younger generations, and they will also achieve reconciliation. They are able to overcome their fear of combat because of their great determination to achieve their goals. Battles that test and teach them, as well as gifts from others (such as advice), can give them "special powers" (i.e. skills). Over time, they have both successes and failures, but as they get stronger and persevere in their pursuit of more, they succeed more and fail less, and that brings them Battles that get bigger and more challenging.

Heroes will always experience at least one great failure (what Campbell calls "the abyss" or "getting eaten by a whale"), which will test their resilience to come back and fight on with greater determination and more wisdom. . If they can do this, they will undergo a transformation ("rebirth"). They will experience fear that protects them without stripping them of the enterprising spirit that drives them forward. Victory will eventually bring rewards. Although the hero doesn't know it during the battle, their greatest reward is what Campbell calls a "favor," the secret to success that the hero discovers along the way.

In their later years, winning more battles and getting more rewards is usually not what excites heroes the most. They are more concerned with passing on their experience to others, which is what Campbell calls "returning the favor." When the payoff is complete, the hero is free to live and then die free, or in my case, transition from the second to the third stage of life. (In the third stage, the hero is free to enjoy life until the end of his life.)

I divide principles into three categories here: basic principles, advanced principles and behavioral principles. Basic principles belong to the "meta" level, the basis of all principles and all actions, including so-called quality and original intention; cognitive principles belong to the value level, including some universal cognition of things, as well as individual understanding. Personal understanding of the phenomenon; behavioral principles are at the methodological level, universal and similar to Dario's five-step process, and personalized including what you have to do every year and every month, etc.

Basic principles

core

  1. life-long learning

Lifelong learning was a term I first heard from Luo Ji Siwei, and it seemed very reasonable. When Li Xiao came here, he was talking about compound interest and growth in life, and Dario was talking about evolution.

The world is changing really fast now. What Tai Shigong said "You can't waste your knowledge in life" can be placed now. There are a lot of books in the book list, a lot of articles on the Internet, and a lot of todos about what I want to study. -list.

quality

  1. Persistence : It is better to be late than never. If you persist, you will surpass most people.

In most competitions, the competitors we encounter may not take the competition too seriously. Some competitors are not strong to begin with, and some competition rules inherently restrict competitors who consistently exceed the average. Anyway, in the big market In some competitions, as long as you persist, you will surpass most people. For example, I remember participating in an online quantitative training camp in my senior year. A large number of people were eliminated in the first few basic levels. When it came time to repeat the strategy, because I had to prepare for the postgraduate entrance examination and re-examination, I submitted a semi-finished product. Unexpectedly, I was promoted to the next stage. Another example is that I am a very stupid person, not good at math, and very lazy. Logically speaking, I should rank very poorly in national competitions such as college entrance examinations and postgraduate entrance examinations. Of course, the results are indeed very poor, but at least I have a school. , I personally think it is closely related to persistence. If you give up along the way, you have at least failed to learn.

  1. Humility : Same as abstraction and concreteness at the cognitive level, think more from someone else’s perspective and don’t stubbornly think that everything you say is right.

"Liao Fan's Four Trainings" talks about the virtue of humility, saying that the hexagram of humility, all six lines are auspicious, and when heaven is about to send blessings to this person, it first sends out its wisdom before its blessings are revealed. Once this wisdom is revealed, the buoyant person will be realized. Those who are reckless will restrain themselves.

"Hackers and Painters" mentions that adults don't know what's really going on inside children. On the one hand, this is because people already have internal information circles. Just like the Internet is also very fragmented now, and there are large differences between circles. The information gap, on the other hand, is that there is no CARE at all. Instead of taking the time to understand, it is better to stay in your comfort zone.

  1. Integrity : It’s best to be honest and say what you need to say clearly in advance.

When you are not good at covering up, and even feel guilty for being dishonest, it is best to do this. Make it clear in advance what you need to say, and reveal your thoughts in a timely manner to avoid wasting time. This is also what Teacher Xue said. Teaching by words and deeds.

  1. Kindness : The bad things you have done in the past will be repaid to you one day.

On the one hand, it is to reduce my guilt, at least when I look at my immorality, I am still very distressed; on the other hand, it is to prevent others from seeing the bad things I have done, and then treat them in the same way. yourself without any guilt.

In the series of articles of Bohai Xiaoli, he talked about cause and effect, and listed many evil things that this person had done before, and then reported back to himself or his descendants in some way. Although we are not superstitious about exaggerated fatalistic causality, we still feel guilty. Feelings are real, and you must look at your experience objectively. Maybe you can subjectively find a reason for yourself to be freed. Maybe you can subjectively not think it is evil, or even feel no guilt, but I don’t believe that a person really If you can't see the objective facts clearly, if you even deceive yourself...

cognitive principles

  1. Treat things equally before making decisions : In other words, look at things objectively, look at things with humility, think more from others' perspective, and make decisions after careful consideration.

The original intention of this principle is to look at the problem comprehensively, rather than making decisions with bias or without thinking at all, especially when your decision involves the interests of others. "Sun Tzu's Art of War" says: Soldiers are a major event for the country. Because such an incident involves the interests and life and death of all people in the country, we must be in awe. When we make decisions, we are first responsible for ourselves, and secondly, we are responsible for the friends around us, the country, and the people involved in the decision, so we must put ourselves into the environment equally.

For example, in 2022, I was interning in a company that the school cooperated with, and the location was a remote campus of the school. Beijing did not have any ban-related policies at the time. There were no more than 50 people in the entire campus, and the school leaders stipulated that two interns could not come and go freely. , everyone else can come and go, this kind of head-slapping behavior is very distasteful.

  1. Do not express opinions without thorough consideration : do not belittle or evaluate content without research or knowledge, because a person's energy is limited, and the world outside the comfort zone is very complex, and nonsense is about the thing itself. of disrespect.

Our understanding of most things is very abstract and not concrete. The knowledge and division of labor in modern society are so complex that it is difficult to imagine. It is difficult to cover it in our own professional field, let alone other fields. In the past few years of being exposed to the Bitcoin world, I have met many self-righteous people, and I have also met many self-righteous people in life. Therefore, do not make negative comments at will when encountering abstract things. It's good to try to understand what it is, even if it's not that deep.

  1. Cherish the opportunity to learn, whether it is school or work : learning is for yourself, and work is for others.

Most jobs involve doing repetitive things, some using your brain and some using your strength, and most of the value you create actually goes to your boss. If you can find an opportunity to learn at work, you must cherish it. What you learn will be in your stomach, and the most direct way is to realize it. When working, a lot of content is to help your superiors realize what they have in their stomach or mind. .

  1. Be strong : at least stronger than the villain.

Weak people cannot express their voices, and most of the time their voices will not be taken seriously. This society is originally a society of the jungle. You are just a stranger to most people, and they will not care about your interests. , survive, because they still have things to do that concern themselves.

Evil people will always exist, so maybe what we can do is continue to become stronger and maintain our kindness.

Behavior

behavioral logic

  1. Payment and pattern : The pattern should be big, don’t worry about it, suffer losses when it’s time, and spend money when it’s time.

Teacher Xue often said that to have a big picture, you must first learn to spend money, and then learn to make money. If the money cannot be spent, it will be very uncomfortable. Li Xiaolai also said that using money to buy more time and using time to buy more attention span are the three business models of life. Buying other people’s time is being the boss of others.

  1. Cherish your attention : don’t waste your time.

Li Xiaolai said that time is objective and cannot be controlled by people. What people can control is actually their own attention. Although it is similar to the concept of invention, it is still helpful, such as making plans before understanding the concept of attention. It may mean that if you spend 2 hours reading a book today, your plan after understanding it will be to read a few chapters of the book today, with quantified results instead of time.

At the same time, in fact, the biggest enemy of human beings is time. It is not scary to be hit. What is scary is that it takes away your time and makes your time serve him, making your time of low value (don’t go to jail).

  1. Seeking : Actively join the world, be proactive, and work hard.

In "The Distant Savior" (TV series "Tiandao"), Ding Yuanying talks about the thinking of the strong and the thinking of the weak. He believes that there is no savior in the world and the only one who can save others is himself. The views expressed in "Four Lessons from the World" also encourage people to actively join the world. , go get what you want, go your own way, don't stick to superficial ethics and rules, as long as it is truly beneficial to people and the progress of society, instead of following arrangements and not innovating.

fixed practice

  1. Writing : After reading a book, if you think it can get 3 stars or above in your own evaluation system, take notes or thoughts after reading it, and record down any opinions and thoughts you have.

Writing was first suggested by Li Xiaolai in his book. He said that this is the second personal business model that everyone can do: selling one person many times at the same time. At the same time, you can also record your growth and discover your own growth afterwards. You can also practice thinking and summarizing. In short, it is an act with many benefits. After that, I joined 007 and opened a public account. I have always insisted on writing things, whether it is notes or Blindly written articles or professional output.

  1. Year-end summary and principles : prevent yourself from forgetting what happened in the past and prevent yourself from forgetting your original intention.

In addition to the above-mentioned "prevention", I think it is also an examination of myself. The older I get, the more profound I feel that the sentence "know yourself" is profound. It is difficult for everyone to know themselves objectively. The year-end summary at least forces me to do so from an objective perspective. You record and recall the events of the year.

  1. Personal Finance : Keep track of your cash flow and assets and liabilities.

I first recorded my income and expenditure. The reason was that when I was a freshman, I spent thousands of dollars given by my parents not long after school started. I felt that I was spending too fast, and I didn’t even know where I spent it. , so I started keeping accounts. In the book, Dalio recommends readers to make their own balance sheets. I actually like this analogy very much, so I started doing it, because in "Corporate Finance" I found that the content described in "Corporate Finance" is highly portable. The content can be roughly divided into three parts: where the money comes from, where the money goes, and the company's operating mechanism. The same is true for individuals and the same for countries. Therefore, the financial statements we use are for companies, but in fact, for individuals and countries All are equally applicable.
