Developers at System76 are developing the COSMIC desktop environment, written in Rust, for their in-house, Ubuntu-derived Pop!_OS Linux distribution, and have provided the latest monthly status update on that desktop effort.
Some improvements to the COSMIC desktop in recent weeks include :
- Display mirroring support for the COSMIC desktop is nearly complete.
- Pop!_OS 24.40 packages are now being built for ARM64.
- The “ultra fast” COSMIC App Store is almost complete. We are constantly improving to solve user experience issues:
- The COSMIC Files file manager has new GNOME Virtual File System (GVFS) integration for handling external storage and network shares.
- Integration of COSMIC Greeter and logind.
- COSMIC Edit now supports commonly used CRLF encoded files on Windows.
- Added drag-and-drop functionality for COSMIC Files, segmented buttons, and libcosmic navigation menus. Some compositor bugs related to drag and drop have also been fixed.
- Added clipboard support for Launcher and App Library.
- Added universal context menu widget for Libcosmic.
- As well as many fixes and other improvements added.
