拿自由软件基金会创始人的一句名言：“出于兴趣而解决某个难题，不管它有没有用，这就是黑客！”
所以，如果说是拿现在的理论去看黑客一词，完全是违背了当初黑客一词发明者的意愿。那话又说回来，为什么历史的发展会将黑客一词给黑暗化，恶意化？它是有故事的：
早在20世纪80年代，也就是黑客一词发明后的20年。出现了一场裂变，事情走向了极端。1983年，一帮密尔沃基市的青少年黑客入侵了美国和加拿大的一些计算机系统，这件事情被广泛报道，在当年的《新闻周刊》封面标题就是：“小心：黑客在行动。”
可想而知，通过媒体这样报道宣传，黑客一词就从很高尚的地位立马被打入冷宫一样。他们就简单的把黑客定义为入侵系统、破坏安全设施、非法获取信息、非法盈利的人。从此，黑客就广泛的被人们所知，所知的就是这样简单的定义，而却不知道黑客是怎样的来源，到底是怎样的一群人！
后来的电影大片、电视剧、小说、各种杂志，只要能提到黑客的，都将其形象大肆渲染。黑客成了反社会的技术高手，仿佛黑客面前只要有键盘，那就成为了这个社会的破坏者。有魔力一样，操纵着连接互联网的每一件东西。
经过这样的风波，那些计算机高手称自己是黑客的人，并没有将自己所会的技术当做是清白的。可能会为了自身利益出现在各种网站上随意破坏，再随着后来的计算机病毒的泛滥，人们更是将黑客认为破坏者，一群对社会有害的人。
