Azure HPC Pack foundation Topology Overview

1 Overview

In this section we study how to use the Microsoft HPC Pack 2012 R2 and Microsoft Azure set of high-performance computing (HPC) clusters. Microsoft HPC Pack 2012 R2 middleware is available from the Microsoft Download Center: HTTP : //www.microsoft.com/zh-cn/gb/download/details.aspx?id=41630

Cluster head node and supporting roles will be run in Azure IaaS virtual machine instances deployed some computing nodes. The examples in this article references Windows Server 2012 R2. Here's catalog:

2 Azure in Windows HPC basic topologies

Our Windows HPC Server architecture consists of a number of computing nodes and node HEAD running in the composition Azure (topology shown in Figure 1):

• HEAD node is the primary node HPC cluster, and run Azure IaaS virtual machine (VM) in. It controls and management of HPC systems can all available resources.
• All HPC computing nodes, (PaaS) running Azure.

In Windows HPC Server, cluster authorization and authentication based on Active Directory domain controller. In order to maintain stability and security in a production environment, we recommend that you and HPC HEAD nodes and domain controllers are deployed on separate dedicated Azure IaaS VM.
