Microsoft Win11 KB5017385 release version number increased to 22623.730 & 22621.730

Hello Windows Insiders, Today we released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22621.730 and Build 22623.730 (KB5017385) to the Beta Channel.

If you need the original iso image or offline update patch, please move to the website of Chen Yi's exclusive paradise to download: http://www.xitongtianxia.cc

  • Build 22623.730  = Introducing new features.
  • Build 22621.730  = New features are turned off by default.

Insiders who were previously using Build 22622 will be automatically migrated to Build 22623 by enabling the package. The enablement pack artificially increases the build number of updates and rolls out and turns on new features to make it easier to distinguish updated devices that have features turned off by default. This method is for the Beta channel only and does not represent any changes or plans for the final feature rollout.

As a reminder, Insiders with new features turned off by default (build 22621.xxxx) into the group can check for updates and choose to install the update that will roll out the feature (build 22623.xxx).

What's New in Build 22623.730

Tablet-optimized taskbar

We've   reintroduced  a touch-optimized taskbar designed to give you more confidence and comfort when using your device as a tablet.   When you disconnect or fold back the keyboard on your 2-in-1, your taskbar will automatically transition to this optimized version.  This feature is only available on devices that can be used as tablets. It is not suitable for laptop or desktop computers.

As a reminder, this taskbar has two states:   collapsed   and  expanded . In the  collapsed   state, the taskbar makes room for you, giving you more screen real estate and preventing you from accidentally invoking the taskbar while holding your tablet. In the   expanded   state, the taskbar is optimized for easier touch use. You can easily switch between the two states by swiping up and down on the bottom of the device.

If this feature is available, you'll see a optimize taskbar when using this device as a tablet in  Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar Behavior A new setting for Touch Interaction", which is set to   on   by default.

[We're starting to roll out this feature, so it's not open to all insiders yet, as we plan to monitor feedback and see how it lands before rolling it out to everyone. ]

Feedback: Please submit feedback in the Feedback Center (WIN + F) under Desktop Environment > Taskbar.

System Tray Update

This update introduces a system tray update that affects all device types, not just 2-in-1s. With this change, users will see circular focus and hover handling on all icons in the lower right corner due to the continued modernization of this experience.

You may also notice that there is no way to drag and drop or rearrange systray icons with this change. We listened to your feedback on this change earlier this year and are working to address this issue in a future Insider Preview release.

Changes and improvements in build 22623.730

[file manager]

  • The home page now searches recently opened Microsoft 365 cloud files for users who signed in with their Microsoft account or connected their Microsoft account to a profile through Settings. Home search now shows recent file activity for cloud files in the details view. Microsoft 365 cloud files can now be searched using additional file attributes such as file location, extension, and activity.
  • File Explorer search will now display results as you type. The full search results page will update in real time, no need to press enter.

Fixes in build 22623.730

[system tray update]

NOTE: These fixes will only appear if Tablet Optimized Taskbar with System Tray Update is enabled on your device. See above for details on the tablet-optimized taskbar and system tray updates, which are starting to roll out to Windows Insiders but are not yet available to everyone.

  • The taskbar should no longer flicker due to system tray changes in non-tablet-optimized scenarios.
  • Fixed an issue that caused parts of the taskbar or its icons (such as search) to get stuck in the wrong theme color when switching between light and dark themes.
  • The date and time should no longer get stuck on the side of the screen due to systray changes.

[Start Menu]

  • Fixed an issue that caused the start menu to crash for some Insiders.
  • Fixed an issue where the Start menu recommendations section could unexpectedly display one column instead of two.
  • If you change the application associated with a particular file type, the icons displayed for any of those file types should now update in the Recommended section.

Fixed Build 22621.730 and Build 22623.730

  • We fixed an issue affecting some processors. This issue occurs when you turn on Hyper-V and Kernel Direct Memory Access (DMA) protection.
  • We fixed an issue affecting the Microsoft Japanese Input Method Editor (IME). Text reconversion fails when using certain third-party virtual desktops.
  • We fixed an issue that could cause the app to stop responding. This can happen when the input queue overflows.
  • We fixed an issue that was preventing you from signing in to various Microsoft Office 365 apps. This affects Outlook, Word, Teams, etc.
  • We fixed an issue affecting graphics drivers that use d3d9on12.dll .
  • We fixed an issue causing Microsoft Store updates to fail.
  • We fixed an issue affecting the LanmanWorkstation service. When you mount a network drive it leaks memory.
  • We fixed an issue affecting Miracast UI. Sometimes when you cast to a device that uses DeviceObjectType:Aep it closes prematurely.
  • We fixed an issue affecting Task Manager. It stops working when you switch between light and dark modes or change the accent color.
  • We fixed an issue affecting three Chinese character fonts. When you format those characters as bold, the width size is wrong.
  • We fixed an issue affecting Microsoft and third-party Input Method Editors (IMEs). They stop working when you close the IME window. This happens if the IME uses Windows Text Services Framework (TSF) 1.0.
  • We fixed an issue affecting Microsoft Edge IE mode. It prevents you from opening web pages. This happens when you enable Windows Defender Application Guard (WDAG) and you don't configure a network isolation policy.
  • We fixed an issue affecting Microsoft Edge in IE mode. Wrong titles for popups and tabs.
  • We fixed an issue that prevented the Credentials UI from being displayed in IE mode.
  • We fixed an issue affecting certificate mapping. When it fails, lsass.exe may stop working in schannel.dll .

known issues

[General]

  • We're investigating reports that audio stopped working for some Insiders in recent Beta Channel builds.

[Tablet-optimized taskbar]

  • The taskbar sometimes flickers when transitioning between desktop and tablet poses.
  • When switching between desktop and tablet poses, the taskbar takes longer than expected to transition to a touch-optimized version.
  • Using left or right edge gestures may cause widgets or notification center (respectively) to overlap or be cut off from the taskbar.
  • When viewing Quick Settings using the bottom right edge gesture, the taskbar would sometimes get stuck in the expanded state instead of closing to the collapsed state.
  • The taskbar sometimes collapsed when no windows were running on the desktop, when it should be expanded.

Try the new Outlook for Windows

Windows Insiders who are also Office Insiders can try out the new Outlook for Windows. Office Insiders running the Beta Channel or the Current Channel (Preview) will see a "Try the new Outlook" switch in the upper right corner of classic Outlook for Windows. Just turn it on and follow the on-screen instructions. In the next few weeks, Windows Insiders will also be able to get this experience in a similar way in the Windows Mail app.

The Outlook team has been working hard to address feedback since the launch of the early preview in May. The new Outlook for Windows includes many new updates to try out—including support for Microsoft accounts.

Read this blog post from Margie Clinton, Group Product Manager on the Outlook team, for all the details on getting started with the new Outlook for Windows and the latest changes to the application!

About the Beta Channel

The Beta channel will be where we preview experiences that are closer to what we'll be offering to regular customers. Because the Dev and Beta channels represent parallel development paths for our engineers, in some cases features and experiences appear first in the Beta channel. However, that doesn't mean that every feature we try out in the Beta channel will be released. We encourage Insiders to read this blog post, which outlines the ways we'll be experimenting with Insiders in the Dev and Beta channels.
