How to back up vCenter 7.0?

Step 1.  Open a browser and log in to the vCenter Server management interface as the root user.

Step 2.  On the vCenter Server management interface, click "Backup" > "Backup Now" .

 Step 3.  Enter backup location details (including protocol, port, server address and backup folder. Use protocols between FTP, FTPS, HTTP, HTTPS, SFTP, NFS and SMB. Paths are relative to home directory) and backup server credentials (include username and password).

 Step 4.  After confirming that all settings are correct, click "Start" to start the vCenter backup task.

However, different environments will have different needs. Some IT administrators think this is unimportant because vCenter is not as important in a small environment. If you just want to simply protect the security of your virtual machine, you can choose to back up the virtual machine .

How to restore vCenter step by step

Step 1.  Mount the DVD IOS Navigate to the \vcsa-ui-installer\ directory in File Explorer and run installer.exe .

 Step 2.  Select Restore and accept the User License Agreement.

Step 3.  Enter backup details such as server address/path/backup folder/subfolder/backup destination credentials etc.

Step 4.  Set the deployment target, provide the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the vSphere ESXi host or management vCenter Server.

Step 5.  Select the folder where you want to deploy the vCenter Server appliance, click Next , and select the computing resource.

 Step 6.  Enter a new virtual machine name and password.

Step 7.  Select the deployment size and storage size.

 Step 8.  Select a datastore from the list provided and provide network configuration settings.

 Step 9.  Review the vCenter Server appliance settings and click Finish , then it will deploy the vCenter Server appliance to the specified deployment target.

Phase 2: Restoring vCenter from backup

Step 1.  Click "Continue" to start the two-phase deployment process: restore vCenter from backup.

Step 2. Click "Next"  in the introduction page .

 Step 3.  Enter the backup details and click Next .

Step 4.  Check the summary of the restore vCenter task, and click "Finish" after confirming that it is correct .

Now that you have successfully restored vCenter from backup, you can open vCenter Power Check to check.
