CSC doctoral joint training-University of Klagenfurt, Austria Exchange thoughts (record stickers)

Notes:

On October 4, 2021, I took Austrian Airlines from Shanghai and finally arrived in Austria. Before getting off the plane, I looked at the colorful clouds in the sky, which were colorful and shining (actually, I arrived at five o'clock in the morning, and here is mainly to express my literary literacy). Afterwards, the plane stopped at Vienna International Airport. When I got off the plane, I couldn't bear the excitement for a long time, and it spontaneously arose. At the same time, I also realized that I have stepped into a country with different skin colors and different languages. Transferred at Vienna International Airport and finally arrived at the destination - Klagenfurt. Klagenfurt (Klagenfurt) is the capital of the Austrian state of Keerten (kirnten, also known as car-inthia), located on the shore of Lake Wilt (worthersee) in the Klagenfurt Valley. It is a big city in the south of Austria, with very convenient air, rail or road transportation.

The university I visited was Klagenfurt University, Klagenfurt University (AAU) is a young, dynamic and innovative university located in Carinthia, Austria. The University of Klagenfurt is the largest academic institution in Carinthia and a hub for the entire Alpine-Adriatic region. The university was founded in 1970 as the Faculty of Educational Sciences, became Universität für Bildungswissenschaften (University of Educational Sciences) in 1975 and Klagenfurt University in 1993. Ranked 48 in the Times Young University Rankings 2021. Klagenfurt University is an international university: around 20% of its students come from abroad, from 100 countries around the world. The University is renowned for its teaching quality and wide range of degree and further education programmes. Walking on the campus of Klagenfurt University, I feel very curious about everything (study? Learn). The campus seems to be on the streets of the city. There are no school gates and no walls. When you first come here, you feel like you have entered a maze (I am a road addict).

On the second day after I arrived at the university, I came to my laboratory under the guidance of my supervisor's secretary. The name of my laboratory is: Christian Doppler Laboratory ATHENA, Institute of Information Technology (ITEC), University of Klagenfurt, Austria. Mainly engaged in research related to video and streaming media processing, which is also the research field I am most interested in. Doppler Laboratory has a vast laboratory and office area. The hardware facilities of the laboratory are really nothing to say, not only the design is reasonable and in place, but also the layout is exquisite, embodying the principle of people-oriented everywhere. Whether it is an experimental environment or an office environment, it makes people feel extremely comfortable. The office not only has a kitchen, a meeting room, but also an entertainment venue (rotten capitalism, what else do they have besides money!).

On the third day after I came to the laboratory, I reported my research work during my doctoral period to Professor Christian. Under the guidance of Professor Christian, we determined a one-year study plan and research direction: information hiding based on H.266 video. This is a very cutting-edge research field. After half a year of research, I successfully completed a small paper, and we submitted the paper to the 24th IEEE Multimedia Signal Processing Symposium (IEEE 24th International Workshop on Multimedia Signal Processing, IEEE MMSP 2022) Fortunately, our paper was successfully accepted (we must post an article as a souvenir, even if it is not a high-level article). This symposium aims to bring together researchers and technicians in the field of multimedia signal processing to share knowledge, exchange ideas, and discuss future research directions (actually, it is an online conference, with no insight into anything). According to the tradition of the laboratory, accepted articles will have gifts, and I naturally got mine: a piece of clothing with the laboratory logo and a bluetooth speaker. This is the biggest achievement of my joint training for one year, and I have left the best memory with my colleagues in Christian Doppler's laboratory (mainly for this souvenir).

In addition to academic gains, I also learned to be independent (forced) in life. At the beginning, the problem that really gave me a headache was the food (can't cook and wait to starve to death). For me, who was used to Chinese food since I was a snack, it was a bit uncomfortable to suddenly not be able to eat Chinese food. But with the passage of time, on the one hand, my culinary skills have greatly improved, from being ignorant before to being able to look good now, and there is basically no problem with eating well. On the other hand, I also gradually fell in love with the food here. Because of the diversity of cultures, I can eat food from different countries and regions such as Mexico, Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, and Italy. Of course, the most comforting and even ecstatic thing is the many Chinese and Asian restaurants in Klagenfurt (thieves are too expensive to eat). So even in Austria, I can eat all kinds of Chinese dishes. Although the taste is different from my hometown, the flavor is still very good!

Time flies, and the one-year joint training ended with a farewell (really soon). At the farewell banquet, Christian and I exchanged my future research direction and wished me better development in the future. This short year is like a dream, but it is a stroke of rich color in my academic path and life. I have harvested many beautiful and precious memories, met many friends from the motherland and colleagues from all over the world, and discovered many wonderful fates, such as meeting a high school classmate who I hadn’t seen for nearly 10 years in Europe by chance (traveling to Italy, traveling together For ten days, went to Rome, Florence, Pisa, Bologna, Venice). In many ordinary days, the highlight moments are always unforgettable. I am very glad to have this opportunity to experience the beginning of a new academic chapter full of ceremonies. I am also very happy to make many excellent friends and know many warmths. people. Although it is only a short year, it seems to have traveled a long way, and even if there is reluctance, I still have to say goodbye for a while. Looking forward to more in-depth and cooperation with colleagues from Klagenfurt University in the future.
